What is Student SAIL?
Student SAIL is a suspension alternative program grounded in prevention science, motivational interviewing, social-emotional learning, and cognitive behavioral principles. The program is designed to increase student knowledge of substance use, strengthen decision-making and coping skills, improve school engagement, and reduce future disciplinary incidents. Program effectiveness is evaluated through pre- and post-assessments, student feedback, and behavioral outcome data.
Student SAIL was created by a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor with more than 10 years of experience working with adolescents in addiction.
Why use Student SAIL?
Research shows that exclusionary discipline practices can increase disengagement, academic difficulties, and future behavioral concerns (1). Student SAIL (Suspension Alternative Intervention & Learning) offers a proactive alternative that keeps students connected to learning while addressing the underlying factors that contribute to disciplinary incidents.
By combining accountability, reflection, skill-building, and support, Student SAIL helps students develop healthier decision-making skills and stay on course toward graduation and future success.
